Here we have summary coverage of the Dakar from 1979-1986, in the wild old days when rallying through African villages at breakneck speeds was “safe.” Vimeo user Waihou Thumper has graciously uploaded all of these episodes from Eurosport TV. Up to the 2008 break, all but the 2006 and 2007 versions are there. I’m not sure if they’ve done similar coverage in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Looks like it might be a close one this year for Marc Coma and Cyril Despres of the factory KTM team. With only a few stages left in this years Dakar Rally, the top two bike riders are within a couple minutes of each other. Follow the coverage here.
